Organist

CHURCH ORGANIST, Trinity United Church of Christ, 2340 State Street, East Petersburg, PA 17520. Position open on February 1, 2024.
Trinity UCC, East Petersburg, PA seeks organist. Must demonstrate proficiency and professional competence in organ and piano performance, as well as choir accompaniment. Should have some knowledge of church liturgy. Candidate should have ability to work with others as a member of a team. Compensation dependent on skill, training and experience. The organ at Trinity is a two manual digital Allen organ. 
Salary Range $12,500-14,500.

Responsibilities of organist

Purpose: The Organist provides the music in traditional worship services by using the organ and or piano to lead the congregation in music for the praise of God

  • Accountable to the Consistory through the Board of Elders, Director of Music and Pastor
  • Collaborate to select appropriate hymns and responses that are reflective of the liturgical season and designated Scripture texts for worship services, mid-week worship occasions, and special celebrations of worship where the organ or piano is the primary instrument used.
  • Attend and accompany all choir rehearsals and accompany choir anthems and vocalists, or other instruments as requested.
  • Provide music for all weddings and funerals held at the church when the organ or piano is the primary instrument used (or first right of refusal) .
  • Schedule qualified substitutes for all absences (4 Sundays & 4 choir rehearsals)
  • In the event that absences exceed the allotted paid vacation time the Organist pay will be reduced to cover the cost of the substitute. (Max 2 additional Sundays and choir rehearsals/year). If more time off is needed, it must be approved by Music Committee & Elders.
  • Submit information for bulletins in a timely fashion determined by the Office Administrator
  • Participate in the Music Committee by attending committee meetings so that the music ministry continues to enhance the life of the church
  • Rehearse sufficiently to maintain a high quality of music at the organ/piano
  • Keep abreast of developments in worship and liturgy through continuing education and professional church publications
